During the operation of the No.1 transformer of a large machinery company in Jiangsu, the power grid contains excessive harmonics. This causes frequent faults of the reactive power compensation cabinet capacitors, including oil leakage, bulging and abnormal noise, alongside partial damage of the thyristor switches, bringing prominent potential risks to power distribution operation. The workshop is mainly equipped with nonlinear load equipment such as CNC lathes, welding machines and precision cutting machines, and continuous harmonic interference seriously affects the stability of the power distribution system.

For this power distribution system, we retain the original cabinet, main circuit breaker, compensation controller and sampling current transformers, and install passive filtering and compensation components with a total capacity of (300+300) kvar, including dynamic compensation regulators, filter reactors and filter capacitors. The system realizes simultaneous reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression to optimize power grid quality.
After on-site commissioning, the equipment operates stably with the real-time system power factor maintained above 0.94. The active power output of the transformer and the overall system power factor are effectively improved with remarkable filtering performance. The 5th harmonic current in the power grid is reduced from 180A to 11A, completely solving the customer’s power quality problems.
