The No.3 transformer reactive power compensation cabinet of a large sewage treatment plant in Jiangsu suffered from capacitor aging, failure and excessive operating noise. These faults led to insufficient transformer output and a low system power factor of approximately 0.91. Long-term continuous operation of on-site loads including water pumps, variable-frequency motors and drying equipment further accelerated the deterioration of power compensation devices.

For the power distribution system, the original cabinet, main circuit breaker, sampling current transformer, compensation controller and switching switches are retained. A complete set of passive filtering and compensation components with a total capacity of 300kvar, including filter reactors and filter capacitors, is installed. The renovated system realizes simultaneous reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression to optimize power quality.
After on-site installation and commissioning, the equipment operates stably with the real-time system power factor stabilized above 0.96. The active power output of the transformer and the overall system power factor are effectively improved. Meanwhile, the 5th and 7th harmonic currents are significantly filtered out, thoroughly solving the on-site power quality problems and fully meeting the customer’s operational requirements.
